Why does each work speak to someone special?
Each piece starts with intention.
Literally and figuratively - every canvas is imbued before the colour and texture play begins, with a single word or phrase that sets the essence of each piece. From there each work builds, layer by layer, textures, colours and energy imbuing the work with spirit that evokes emotion and attracts the perfect place & home for that work.
I truly believe that art which connects on an emotional level—whether through colour, construction, or some intangible “quality”—has the power to transform a space. It can lift an environment, making it more welcoming and nurturing. It invites the viewer to look twice, to linger, and to appreciate the richness of their immediate experience of life.
My abstract work is layered, intuitive, and grounded in feeling. I hope each piece brings a sense of joy, intrigue, and lasting happiness to the spaces they inhabit.
A note from Michelle…
Creativity has always been the thread running through my life. Over the years, I’ve explored a wide range of mediums—quilting, mosaics, stencilling, silversmithing, embroidery—constantly pushing the boundaries of tradition and technique.
Colour and texture have always been at the heart of my creative expression.
Through this journey, I’ve organically developed my own language of colour, placement, and texture — a personal toolkit built over time.
When I first brought these elements together on canvas, it felt like a lightbulb moment: suddenly, I had a way to express not just visual beauty, but the emotional depth behind it.
Most of my work is created using a palette knife—originally a practical choice due to arthritis, but now an essential part of my style. The knife allows me to work instinctively and with physicality, layering colour and texture in a way that feels both raw and deliberate.
